Home remedy for Dandruff

There are various reasons for dandruff, some of the most common being:

Dry Skin – Dry skin is the most common cause of dandruff, especially in the winter season. Flakes due to dry skin are generally smaller and less oily than those from other causes of dandruff.And you’ll likely have symptoms and signs of dry skin on other parts of the body, such as your legs and arms.

Irritated, Oily Skin – This is the most frequent cause of dandruff, marked by red greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. This excessive oiliness and irritation may affect other areas such asscalp, eyebrows, sides of nose and the back of ears. Flakes can fall from these areas as well. Some fungal strains feed on the oil produced on scalp, so large pores on scalp could lead to dandruff.

Lack of cleaning – If you forego regular cleaning, oils and dead cells can build up on scalp causing dandruff. At times if the hair cleanser is too harsh, it can strip way natural oil from scalp leading to dry scalp and dandruff. So choose your hair cleanser wisely – one which doesn’t contain soap or detergents isadvisable.

Regular moisturizing of scalp with oils which have anti-dandruff properties, followed by hair cleansing with shampoos that do not contain harsh chemicals, soaps, or detergents are the long-term solutions for dandruff control.Try these easy Ayurveda remedies- they not only control and remove dandruff, but promotehealthy hair as well.

Oils for dandruff

  1. Tea tree oil -This has greatanti-fungal and antiseptic properties. Mix a few drops of Tea Tree and Rosemary essential oils, and mustard oil. Rosemary helps in minimizing the pore size, so that oil secretion from scalp canbe controlled. Massage it gently into scalp and hair roots. It moisturizes the scalp, stimulates hair growth, and improved microcirculation of scalp promotes healing. Leave it for 30-45 minutes, and cleanse hair as usual.
  2. Neem oil – Boil leaves of Neem tree in water for 20 minutes, sieve the residue, add the remaining water in coconut oil, and boil this mixture till all the water evaporates. Add a little bit of Camphorand one teaspoon fresh Lemon juice in it. This oil helps to remove large flakes of dandruff and cleanses pores as well. The combination is ideal for excessively oily scalp.

Hair Pack

Boil a handful of Neem leaves in four cups of water for 10 minutes. Cool and strain the solution.Add 1 teaspoon Yoghurt, 2 teaspoonsHenna, 1 tablespoon Lemon juice, and mix everything well. Apply this paste on your scalp.Leave it to dry and cleanse with lukewarm water. This hair pack conditions hair, and Lemon and Neem help to control dandruff-causing fungus.

Hair Cleansing

Apple Cider Vinegar – Take 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and apply on scalp and hair.Rinse with plain water to wash off flakes from your scalp and hair.

Aloe Vera gel – Take fresh Aloe Vera gel (2 tablespoons) and apply it on scalp before cleansing hair. This soothes the scalp and helps to reduce itching.
